Why Wolds Rally?
This event used to run as a multi-venue stage rally using various locations in the Lincolnshire Wolds and even Skegness seafront as a stage. The Wolds has run at Manby airfield as a single venue event but has most recently found its home at Swinderby airfield in its end of summer slot, on the first weekend in September. 2009 sees the event move to new home, Fulbeck Airfield on the last weekend (bank holiday weekend) of August
Sponsors
The event has had many different sponsors over the years but for the last two years it has been sponsored by Dave and Sam Wood/Penguin Hire. Their help and support is greatly appreciated.
Type of event
Currently the event runs as a multi-use/ single venue rally and has utilised Swinderby Airfield in more recent times. Following the loss of this venue for motorsport the Wolds Rally is moving to a new venue - Fulbeck.
Setting up the venue (laying out the tyres, bales, cones, arrowing and signing) takes the set up crew a whole day and a lot of sweat! It is fortunate that we run this event jointly with Carlton Motor Club as the organisation and set up of the event requires a lot of skills and hard physical work.
Thirty second starting intervals between cars means that the whole venue is buzzing with activity with approximately thirty cars on stage at one time. Maximum entry is 90 cars and for the last few years this event has been full well before the closing date for entries. Get your entry in early to be assured of a place!
We believe that The Wolds will continue to provide an exciting and interesting test for both car and crew.
For several years the Wolds has been held at the beginning of September when the weather is normally pretty good. Several competitors camp overnight at the airfield as scruitineering is usually available the night before the event. This allows crews to relax a little, socialise and ’make a weekend’ of the event. For 2009 we are running on the last weekend in August.
Marshalling
Mablethorpe and District Motor Club welcomes any marshals that are willing to help out. There is a large area to cover so the more marshals and radio crews we have, the better we are able to respond to any incident. A ‘goody bag’ is provided. Please contact the Chief Marshal.
Spectating
This is not a spectator event. Anyone parking at or near the venue do so at their own risk and should remember that motor sport is dangerous. If you do move about the venue please follow any marshal’s instructions. Keep alert and keep well back.
